    Short answers

    Silksong Save Editor FAQ

Does my Silksong save get uploaded to a server?

No. The editor reads, decodes, and changes your userX.dat file inside your browser. The original save and the edited result are not sent to this site’s server for processing. You can use the core editor without creating an account. Your save remains on your device until you choose to download the edited copy.

Should I back up the original save file before editing?

Yes—always keep an untouched backup. After the save loads, use Download Original Backup before changing resources, progression, or game-state values. Keep that file until the edited save opens correctly in Silksong and you have checked the affected slot. If a change produces an unexpected result, close the game and restore the untouched userX.dat instead of trying to repair several uncertain values at once.

Can a newer save work in an older Silksong game version?

Not reliably. Team Cherry notes that a save opened by a newer game build can show “Version Incompatible” when it is later opened by an older build. Update or match the game version before assuming the save itself is corrupted. The editor does not downgrade saves or promise compatibility between game versions, so preserve the original file before testing an edited copy.

Can the editor fix every Silksong progression bug?

No. Quick Edit handles established resource values such as Rosaries and Shell Shards. Steel Soul recovery is offered only when the editor detects the exact defeated state it knows how to change safely. Plasmium Phial and Tool Pouch tools stay in checker or troubleshooting mode when the required flags cannot be verified across game versions. For other values, Advanced Mode provides searchable access, but it should be used carefully and with a backup.

Where can I find my Silksong userX.dat save file?

The folder differs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Select your operating system in the save-location panel near the upload area to see a copyable folder path, then look for files named user1.dat, user2.dat, and so on. The number normally corresponds to the save slot. See the full Silksong save location and backup guide for platform paths, Steam folder details, auto-save recovery, and version compatibility notes.
